And that's London Fashion Week off to a smiling start!

Posted Feb 19, 2010

Accessories and styling can make or break a fashion show - though last night's Fashion Relief in London introduced a new kind of accesory. Forget clutches and statement necklaces, this season is all about the smile!

A somewhat unusual sight on a catwalk: we see plus-size models, we see older models, we even see tiger cubs... but the smile remains a most discreet presence. Last night's bit of charitable fashion however offered plenty of them. Amongst Swide's favourites...

The quiet and confident smile.

And so it should be from a woman who knows she has been owning the catwalk since before most fashion bloggers were born. Eva Herzigova, on the right side of elegantly sexy in a Dolce & Gabbana net trenchcoat, is one of those comforting catwalk presences, the friendly face we love to see

The trying-not-to-laugh-at-your-jokes smile.

English actress Tamsin Egerton in D&G went for full-blown model poses (and we must say it was a convincing rendition) and while we had a good laugh she obviously struggled to keer her cool (true model-style) and not burst into peals of laughter. Job well done Tamsin, our new catwalk crush!

The full-blown ecstatic smile.

It might a serious cause but there isn't much Jamelia hasn't got to smile about. This happy D&G clad family (loving the girls in D&G Junior looks like the happiest bunch ever to graced the catwalk. Hoping this infectious smile and the knowledge that the fashion world is behind them might give Haiti a little hope... and a reason to show the world their own smile!
