Amanda Seyfried, the blue-eyed beauty we all remember from popular teen flicks like "Mean Girls" and "Mamma Mia" proves to the world she's capable of playing a provocative role, her latest film shows a definite departure from her squeaky clean image.

Before starring in her recent erotic-thriller film, "Chloe", many have wondered how difficult it may have been for Seyfried to navigate her career into a more serious direction after having starred in a family-friendly film like "Mamma Mia". In an interview, Seyfried shares,"I think Mamma Mia brought me to a new audience. I already had kind of an audience from Big Love, which was a more serious type of well-written piece of work that if you were getting used to seeing me as Sarah, the daughter in Big Love, I think that Mamma Mia was a new audience, younger, young kids and older women. So then I had a well-rounded group of people who kind of were familiar with me and so it wasn’t hard to jump back into very serious after Mamma Mia. After Mamma Mia I did this really weird dark movie called Boogie Woogie and so I went straight into that and then after that I did a horror comedy. I’ve just been really lucky with the movies that are coming up."

"Chloe", a suspense-thriller directed by Atom Egoyan, finds Julianne Moore’s character (Catherine) reevaluating her husband David’s (Liam Neeson) fidelity and hires an upscale, young and unstable escort, Chloe (Seyfried) to find out the truth. The film involves a complicated love triangle between all three characters and also reveals some steamy love scenes that has Seyfried challenging herself as an actress. Starring alongside seasoned screen stars could be intimidating enough, but then to have to film love scenes is a whole other ball park. The interesting twist in the film involves Seyfried's character (Chloe) developing an intimate relationship with Catherine. Merely uttering "girl- on -girl action" gets people talking, could it have been written into the film as a plot to fill up theater seats? The film's writer, Cressida Wilson shares, "It’s interesting, when writing it I never thought of it as a lesbian issue or a bisexual issue. I just didn’t think of that. I think Chloe fell in love. I think Catherine falls in love with her as well. In some ways, it’s about Chloe but it’s also about (Catherine) falling in love with her younger self and thus falling back in love with herself so she can learn to be attracted and attractive to her husband.”

Up until recently, Seyfried had been playing "safe" roles that have been appealing to a younger audience . So, playing a role like "Chloe" was both a challenge and intimidating for the young actress. In discussing her initial thoughts upon accepting the role, Seyfried shared, "I have only really gotten by with playing versions of myself as most young actors do. It was the best opportunity that had ever come up for me, the most complex female character and I had to do it. It was clearly the riskier choice, but it was also the better choice. And I think the risk factor came with that I might not be able to pull it off and also that the nudity might, I don’t know, create some damage with my American audience. It’s sad to say, but it’s true."

Seyfried's commitment to take on roles outside her comfort zone will not only show her range as an actress but also gain respect in the industry. The actress' role in "Chloe" is both raw and convincing which renders the film worthy of a watch.
