Mr. Dolce & Mr. Gabbana’s young designers of choice

Posted Sep 16, 2010

With fashion shows happening as we speak, we wanted to be prepared and fully studied, so we asked the two designers who we should be watching when it comes to emerging talents.

Off the runways, Tuesday September 14th, instead of reporting on whatever the press is covering, we took a look at the future and kindly asked Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana to tell which young talent they find interesting. Then we did our research and were astonished by these designers’ new and innovative work. Here is a full-eye report and an introduction. (Stay tuned for live interviews)

Fausto Puglisi

 www.faustopuglisi.com

Dressing the cowgirls in the know could be his claim for fame at least for now. Madonna, Whitney Houston are among his celeb list. His western style and his successful “essays” on fur make his young career very promising as much as his website to come. (missing pictures as of now)

Felder Felder

 Shop.felderfelder.com

Heavy fashion created by feline girls in love with black and metal. Hardware for strong looks softened by refined fabrics. The German twins have never failed in surprising first rows during fashion weeks. The colour is black but their creations have no limits.

Vladimiro Gioia
www.vladimirogioia.com
Italian he is, and so is his design. Using the classic codes, he celebrates his love for fur in this winter’s collection. We look forward to feeling warm in the cold and follow Vladimiro in a new fashion way that he is ready to lead.

Martin Grant
www.martingrantparis.com

The Australian designer, class of 1966, pretends and requires shape as the ultimate existentialist form of art. Pure lines and silhouettes, structured military cuts. The intimate world of Martin Grant is made of tailoring and details, a close relationship with the body.

Peter Jensen
peterjensen.co.uk
Every season, Peter’s woman has a name; this time around she is Muriel.  Since 2001, Peter is flirting with the preppy and the pretty. At the end the looks are edgy and for any London-edge seeker, his label is definitely a go.

MSGM
msgm.it
“The future is mine” is MSGM motto. Forget what you have seen before, this Italian fashion house is only about newness. For now and as promised, the specificities are in the cuts and the fabrics picked and mixed together. Daringly cared.

Girls from Omsk
www.girlsfromomsk.be

 Elisa Palomino
elisapalomino.com

A whimsical and irreverent style: Elisa Palomino’s carte de visite. From Valencia, Spain, to St Martins, she is a testimonial of the school’s prestige. She made the most eccentric dreams come true both at Galliano and Haute Couture Dior, and finally spread her wings to a “room of her own”: made of a poetic femininity, a tale of passion that starts from anywhere but explodes ever-present.

 Fannie Schiavoni
fannieschiavoni.com

Swedish based in London, Fannie Schiavoni’s designs have the power to capture you. A well-planned and staged mix of delicate yet in-your-face details create a strong feeling of expansion towards a different realm hanging between desires and suspensions of the material world.

 Il sistema degli oggetti
www.ilsistemadeglioggetti.it

Menswear in a pot or on your face.  A fashion focus on “mobile”. Design to wear and live, as the label name suggests, it is an aesthetic system that produces high-level design in innovative fabric. A summary of what Milan is about: 2 “F”, fashion and furniture.

Gail Sorronda
gailsorronda.swappler.com
Futurism reinterpreted by an Australian feel. Gail Sorronda’s facebook page speaks clear and loud as if from the creations emerged a sort on haunting imagery, a mystical place in harmony with something profoundly natural yet out of nature. Caps and tulles mix, a location, a legendary atmosphere, recreate more than a dress: they tell a story.

Kinder Aggugini
www.aggugini.com
The teacher’s pet everyone loves. Indispensable to Vogue, Donatella Versace, worked for Galliano, and the list can go on. Those who love London came to know Kinder Aggugini from the many times he was pointed out as being amazingly genius. An Italian ex-punk, he studied at St Martins during the 80s and his work shows just how London-impregnated he is. His designs are unsettling. Create a macabre yet fun world in which to navigate with spirit.

Sophie Theallet
www.sophietheallet.com
French, based in New York: what happens next? If you thought you couldn’t mix the French girly nonchalance with American preppy perfection, you are mistaken. There is something uncanny about her designs, they seem to portray a simple approach to the feminine figure but one has to go deeper without knowing where, being left with a question mark. In per se a seduction without a reiteration of the word.

 Napsugar Von Bittera
napsugardesign.com

Sealed behind the Hungarian words of her website, we can only watch her at work and interpret the designer’s remarkable folly with the fashion designs. References to fashion history, cuts, leathers, there is not a weak theme she decides to put her hands on, thus raises our expectations. On whom, herself, or us? This remains to be worn.

 Heather Williams

Fashion construction summarises what Heather is all about. Between Milan and NY, she brings line and conceptual shapes to shoes. Two cities, two views, past and present, Heather has a rich and inspiring take on what surrounds her. Walk in her shoes and you will cross the bridge between heritage and innovation.

Cooperative Designs

Annalisa Dunn and Dorothee Hagemann are based in London as Cooperative Designs. Both St Martins’ graduates, they are now dreaming of opening their first store. Knits and colours match, mix, recreate an optical effect that is both joyous and out of the boundaries. A game played by the two girls.

Araks
www.araks.com
A work of tailored perfection. Shapes that define a mood, based on the idea that a woman’s beauty needs to be effortless and this is most evident when she feels comfortable. The work-in development started with her approach to lingerie that followed the same principle of beauty and comfort applying it with the most natural cottons and fibers to the most luxurious looking designs.

Avelon
www.avelonavelon.com
Practicability, simplicity, Avelon from Holland does follow the school rules and offers for him and for her some neutral uniforms and shades. Classic cuts that follow bodylines. Clothing that expresses what you want to say only but firmly. (missing picture as of now)

Yigal Azrouel
www.yigal-azrouel.com
Unique vision. Yigal Azrouel is a unique innovative designer for his contribution to New York’s meatpacking district cultural expansion as well as for the detailed beauty of his designs. Born and raised in Israel from a French-Moroccan descent, his work is a sublime conversion of all aesthetical imagery. Something he draws from life in its past, present and future form.

Behnaz Sarafpour
www.behnazsarafpour.com
The Iranian designer grew up in Philadelphia but never lost a touch of unexplained Orient. A persistent research on the most innovative textiles allows her to explore designs in a new key of lecture based on modern elegance and its relationship with women.

Christian Blanken
www.christianblanken.co.uk/
Christian’s fashion knows no season. His creations challenge the test of time. Following him since 2008, it seems obvious that his beautifully made collections are still to hang in our wardrobes. Structural cuts, defined colour themes, seasonal fabric highlights; Christian is delivering a cool message through serious fashion designs.

 Erkan Çoruh
www.erkancoruh.com

Class of 1976, the young Turk is fearless in his creations. Amidst iconic Turkish symbols, religious references, political messages, there is a strong sense of fashion. Not a provocation but a storytelling amusement with a fierce look upon his origins.

 Marc Philippe Coudeyre
www.mpcoudeyre.com

A fascination with the existing diversity in clothing: the Aberdeen born designer is highly influenced by the number of countries he has lived in. We can feel the touch of the Antwerp school, but it is pierced by a strong sense of identity and presence.
