There
is something dreamy about sailing boats, probably because they take you places
carried poetically by the wind rather than a mapped direction.
The
privately owned “Vertigo” seems to be the disposable version of Manhattan
(already an island), althout it is not a house boat, it wants to as close as it
can to a penthouse: a urban at sea.
Many
are the pointers to that direction: the city-like interiors, the apartment like
decks and interiors, a unique foredeck, custom designed furniture. Everything is
a salute to what Christian Liaigre knows how to do best: create a home. In this
case a floating one.
A
mix of sophistication and relaxation, Vertigo is the epitome of Liaigre's
impeccable, intellectual, and rich taste. At first sight minimalist, its details
are laborious and luxurious, the materials researched, and the furniture is
designed by the decorator itself, therefore creating an unmatchable ensemble.
Liaigre's
work is in his own words “luxe, calme et moderne”. It is almost a “modern”
declination of the Henri Matisse “Luxe, calme et volupté”. What has changed in
our way of living? If minimalism keeps being chic, its coldness needs some
sophisticated kind of “volupté”, perfect like a peach in its taste, shape, and
colour tones, overflowing with voluptuosity of sensations.
Christian Liaigre is a famous decorator, if not the most requested for private residences. He is also the decorator of The Mercer hotel in New York.
