When the last green ray shone

Posted Jan 22, 2010

Eric Rohmer was a man of many films who many have felt compelled to write about in many words. As easy as it would be to join their ranks and wax lyrical on about every single shot in every single film there is something to be said for a more sober approach.

Rohmer's death, although recent, has already been digested by most and many respects have been paid, at times rather prolixly so. Failing to see the point in doing so and thinking an obituary might completely miss the point as a man of his calibre will always be alive through his forever-destined-to-be-popular films... here is an arbitrary selection of videos as a little hommage. It isn't adieu though...

The Green Ray

The Green Ray epitomises Rohmer's filmaking: a rare phenomenon in an everyday setting... Stunning and fascinating yet all in all beautifully humble and uncomplicated.
Merci M. Rohmer, à la prochaine...
