Welcome to Lollywood

Posted Apr 20, 2009

You may consider yourself a film buff but a 1960's lost rare vampire classic from Pakistan? Quentin Tarantino wannabes click this way as we reveal the other notable Pakistan film-makers from the 2009 Karachi Film Festival.

Pakistani film has not always been such an endangered species. In the 60s, 70s and early 80s, the industry boasted eleven studios that produced over a hundred films annually. One of which is the now iconic - "The Living Corpse" - a rare vampire film that caused a sensation when it was released, and subsequently banned in the 1960's.

In the face of stiff competition, Lollywood's annual output dropped to forty films -- produced by a single studio, but if like us you'd like to draw some creative inspiration from elsewhere than the usual world-famous directors, it's time to take a fresh at Lollywood.

As this year's winners of the Karachi Film festival have just been announced - we reveal the new films to watch this year.
