Wash tacky ads away

Posted Dec 4, 2008

Japanese company Lion is using manga in its washing powder ads - quite possibly the most interesting ads in this genre that we've seen. Despite the world having moved on - we never quite understood why soap ads remained in the 60's...

Introducing Yoshiko Sentaku. She's 32 years old, single, lives in Tokyo, and dreams of one day having a fully automatic washing machine. Well a girl's got to have her dreams...She's also the starring charcter in Lion's new washing liquid ad.

Her character was specially developed for Japanese company, Lion's new product launch by Yukari Ichijou, one of Japan's most famous artists manga for women and just when we thought we couldn't possibly love the ad anymore - we disovered her surname, "sentaku" actually means laundry in Japanese.

Could this be something to finally convince us laundry is underrated? Maybe not, but we'll keep the bottle on your shelves anyway.
