Vincent Cassel is France's public enemy number one

Posted Jul 24, 2009

Described as Goodfellas meets The Godfather by Uncut, Mesrine tells the story of the mythical French gangster Jacques Mesrine.

The part all French actors are said to want to play - for the first time ever the life of this notorious French bandit will be brought to the big screen. Vincent Cassel stars as Jacques Mesrine alongside Gerald Depardieu (Guido) in this thriller and biopic directed by Jean-Francois Richet.

It's claimed that Cassel gained and then lost 20 kilograms, or 45 pounds, for the part. "The hardest was gaining the weight." He donned elaborate disguises, and an array of toupees, mustaches, glasses and expressions to go with them - on the lengthy nine month shoot. Source

Take a peek at the film's trailer below.

Jacques Mesrine was killed in a police ambush in Paris. His dramatic death - some 19 bullets hit him at the wheel of his car - made one of the most spectacular covers of Paris Match, his ultimate cover story.
