Sin Nombre - the film of 2009

Posted Mar 25, 2009

Released this Monday - Sin Nombre is not only director Cary Joji Fukunaga’s first feature but is also a 2009 Sundance Award winner and executively produced by Hollywood actor Gael Garcia Bernal amongst others.

Sin Nombre is an epic dramatic thriller written and directed by Student Academy Award winner Cary Joji Fukunaga (featured below) who looks set for a long and successful career as a filmmaker.

The filmmaker’s firsthand experiences with Central American immigrants seeking the promise of the U.S, Sin Nombre tells the story of Sayra (Paulina Gaitan & featured below), a teenager living in Honduras, and hungering for a brighter future. Set on the American/Mexican, the film combines the fearsome gangs of today’s Mexican countryside and the longed for dreams of freedom.

On a train to the border, Sayra meets teen gang members Smiley and Casper - a journey that will determine the future of their lives. Hugging the rooftop as their precarious journey unfolds - the film is both a love story and a "thrilling ride into the vision of an apocalyptic hell".

Not only does the film showcase director, Fukunaga's outstanding talent, but also envelops the viewer in the nightmare that is all too real for its inhabitants creating both " a portrait of hope and desperation". Watch the trailer below.
