Sick sad fascinating world: the art of George Tourlas

Posted Dec 22, 2009

His work explores new depths of transgression and discomfort but all for the sake of a reinterpretation of relationships and other human dynamics.

Not exactly strongly advised for the prone to fainting. While it may all look innocent and pink at first, upon inspecting his work closer George Tourlas reveals hmself as one of these artists whose audacity makes us question their level of sanity - or rather insanity (intended in the best creative sense). Some of his video performances have literally left the Swide team hanging on to the contents of their stomachs (look up his contribution to the fifth round of experimental video collaboration into the pill... if you dare!) though in the least visually provocative one easily forgets the rather disturbing aesthetics in favour of a certain poetry - the poetry of gaping wounds and exacerbated sufferance but poetry nonetheless.

Most definitely one to watch - though safely hidden behind one's fingers!
