There is more to Milan this week than cocktails and hemlines. Opening March 1st is Richard Hambleton's exciting show with no less than 15 never-seen-before works; the coming together of a veteran artist and two highly successful young art entrepreneurs.

Richard Hambleton is a unique figure in a world of unique figures. One of the legends of the legendary East Village Art Movement, he cuts a singular figure amongst artists notorious not only for their work but also for their somewhat troubled lifestyle. While someone like Basquiat ended their career in a rather tagic way, Hambleton has been keeping a rather lower profile all the while remaining a highly prolific artist; you can find his painting all over the world from the MoMA to Berlin.

Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld and Andrew Valmordibda are showing Richard Hambleton some art love.

This is the second round of an interesting collaboration that started back in September when Andy Valmordbida and Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld first took on the task to exhibit Richard's uconventional work. The boys say:

"Richard Hambleton’s brush stroke as an artist is genius and is in a league of its own. Most significantly, he is the most important and influential living street artist in the world today, with a story and career that is unparalleled."

They might be young but this wouldn't be the boys first foray into the contemporary art world; Andrew has been working alongside emerging and established contemporary arists since 2006 while this will be Vladimir's fifth exhibition.

What are we to expect from this Milanese exhibition? Two weeks (from March 1st to March 12th), 45 pieces, including thirty for sale (half of these which have never been shown in the past) so as to delight simple art fans and serious collectors alike.

The initiative is sponsored by another Hambleton fan, designer Giorgio Armani, whose gallery will also be hosting the exhibition; the gallery at the Armani/Teatro in Milan will be open Monday to Friday from 10am to 7pm (The Armani/Teatro is located on Via Bergognone, 59 in Milan.)
