Reporting the real truth

Posted Jan 6, 2009

Top contemporary Chinese artist Mao Yanyang questions the media's coverage of world affairs in his first solo exhibition at Shanghai's Art Scene Warehouse.

If you've ever wanted to throw a book at the TV when the news is on - this is the exhibition for you.

Questioning the media's reporting of political events Mao Yanyang combines a cigarette-smoking gorilla, forest fire and a giant ostrich in his solo exhibition, at Shanghai's Art Scene Warehouse, a must-visit gallery if you are ever in Shanghai. From Nov 22nd - Dec 3rd 2008 his first solo exhibition underlines the incredibly influential role of the media in presenting political issues to the world.

Mao Yanyang won the much coveted Chinese Art Prize in 2007 with his striking photo-perfect painting technique combined with strong thought-provoking political themes. Look out for the microphones in the foreground of each painting.
