Play me I'm yours

Posted Aug 20, 2009

Not wishing to moan, but what's missing in cities today is something that brings society together and we're not talking a wine bar. Artist Luke Jerram has putting pianos in cities around the world, hoping the world will sing again and not to the sound of its own iPod.

Outside pubs and football grounds, industrial estates, laundrettes, bus shelters and train stations - Luke Jerram's project 'Play Me I'm Yours" invites members of the public to claim ownership of these randomly placed pianos.

Acting as sculptural, musical, blank canvases, the pianos become a reflection of the communities they are trasnported into. Many become personalised and decorated and question the ownership and rules of public space.

Ladies & Gentlemen it's time to take ownership of your urban environment with a tinkle or two rather than a planning dispute. See more from the project at www.streetpianos.com.
