Nowhere Boy: John Lennon's untold story

Posted Nov 2, 2009

Although slightly overshadowed by the film's director Sam Taylor Wood announcing she intends to marry the film's lead, Aaron Johnson, this new biopic looks set to rock and roll.

Aaron Johnson plays a young John Lennon

The film follows John Lennon’s teenage years from 1955, when he was a rebellious 15-year-old living in Liverpool's suburbia with his Aunt Mimi (Kristin Scott Thomas), and finishes with his departure for Hamburg with two other 'unknowns', Paul McCartney and George Harrison.

Nowhere Boy - the official trailer directed by Sam Taylor Wood.

Sam Taylor Wood is well known as a visual artist but this is her feature debut, a follow-up to her earlier short film Love You More. Unlike other tired films that re-tell the story of The Beatles, the film instead focuses on John Lennon's early life and his turbulent family upbringing.

His mother (Anne-Marie Duff) having had a breakdown when she had John, hands him over to his aunt played by Kristin Scott Thomas. John proceeds to be brought up in a strict middle-class household, until his aunt reappears and introduces him to his musical destiny.
