Mike Tyson: Raging Bull

Posted May 6, 2009

From Sony Pictures and opening this week in NY and L.A - "Tyson" is a revealing documentary from acclaimed indie director James Toback that ensures fighting is the film world's new fascination.

We've all witnessed the tabloid horror and disintegration of Mike Tyson's reputation and career, but ten years down the line - who is he now and what does he think of his past?

The no-holds-barred portrait examines Tyson's marriage, prison, the fall of his career, which has already resulted in an "Official Selection Award" at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and "Knockout Prize" winner at the Cannes Film Festival.

In his own words Tyson examines his own life in and out of the ring with a candor, eloquence and vulnerability that is by turns poignant , funny and never less than brutally honest.

Like a figure from a classic tragedy, "Tyson" offers more than just a documentary about a former heavyweight champ - it's a story of a legendary and uniquely controversial international athletic icon, a man who arose from the most debased circumstances and soared to seemingly unlimited heights, followed by destruction and despair.

Take a look at the trailer for the film that has been described by Roling Stone magazine as "essential viewing" and NY Times as a "sympathetic portrait...open and honest".
