Mickey we salute you

Posted Dec 9, 2008

A tear-jerker and wrestling rarely go hand-in-hand, however after seeing new film, "The Wrestler" starring Mickey Rourke you may never hear the word "re-match" again without getting a lump in your throat. Out on...

From director Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a dream, and 2010's Robocop) - The Wrestler out on December 17th tells the story of a battered dreamer who despite the odds stacked against him, lives to be a hero in the only place he calls home, the ring.

Rumour has it that Nicholas Cage was originally up for the role - but after seeing Mickey Rourke acting his heart out ( and the soundtrack that screams heavy rock revival), we couldn't imagine anyone else in the ring.

Mickey who's a formally trained boxer talks about the grueling training he undertook for the film, and the differences between wrestling and his first love, boxing in the clip below from a press conference during the New York Film Festival. Definitely worth a peek.
