Francesca Woodman's Milanese Retrospective

Posted Jul 16, 2010

From the 16th of July to the 24th of October, Palazzo della Ragione in Milan will be the scene of a great retrospective – 116 photographs and 5 videos – on Francesca Woodman.

The body outside the body, inside objects, blurry, personal and impersonal. No lines, no frames, long exposures for the camera, and her: both the subject, object, transmitter, and photographer. Mainly a choice of practical reasons: she is always with herself ready to be photographed. Nonetheless the self-portraits are not for the “self”, you can never capture the entire physiognomy: she is there to serve a transcendent purpose.
Francesca Woodman, the daughter of artists, whose coming of age and young death at 22 gave us in retrospective 9 years of her work, incredibly mature and in which not one picture seems to not be part of a grander meaning. Conceptual and ever-current: the erotic, the place of women in their surroundings, revealing, not revealing, searching the soul, showing it.
At Palazzo della Ragione, Milan, a retrospective of her work, a privilege not to miss.
