Photographer Gian Paolo Barbieri is doing New York

Exotica by Gian Paolo Barbieri is an American discovery of one of the greatest fashion photographers of the twentieth century. Gian Paolo has shown at the Paul Smith Gallery in London and has published several books with Taschen, but this is his first ever US gallery show. Barbieri will show his photographs grouped under the series Exotica from May 25th to July 18th at the Clic Gallery in New York, Barbieri is known for his fashion photographs but since the nineties he has been travelling to tropical paradises and brought back very special shots telling stories about exotic countries. Tropical nature is framed with this fashion photographer unquestionable good taste; indigenes and local communities are presented in a simple and very genuine way. Barbieri reveals himself as being a master of ethnographic photography. Without betraying reality he expresses his view with his lenses.
Born in Italy in 1938, Gian Paolo Barbieri’s editorials have been published in Vanity Fair, Vogue Italia, Vogue Paris and GQ among others and his image of Audrey Hepburn, Angelica Huston, and Iman are some of the most famous fashion photographs. Gian Paolo has also shot campaigns for the big Italian fashion houses such as Valentino, Versace, Dolce&Gabbana and Armani.

“Italiana”: An Italian style comedy by Luca Finotti
The Matt Silk Collection for SS12 is cool, pretty and perfectly in tune with this season’s main trend: Fifties. Luca Finotti, an up and coming Italian director was charged with creating a video to contextualize the inspiration behind the glasses. Drawing from by the classic Italian Fifties comedies, the video tells a story of ironic jealousy between mother and daughter. Think classic car, Bianca Balti, vintage music, Italian scenery. The story for the video was created by Swide, styled by Yuri Ahn and directed by Luca Finotti. A Fifties day out for a contemporary woman.
