David Byrne's design overhaul

Posted May 6, 2009

As if cycling needed another hip status symbol. With bikes the worldwide hip accessory it follows that cycle racks are the latest accessory to get a style overhaul. David Byrne's involvement however intrigued us...

We can hear Paris, Milan and London screaming out for a similar collaborations as we speak...

An avid bicyclist for almost 30 years, it followed that Byrne grew tired (join the club) or attempting to secure his bike to a lampost, Men At Work sign or our usual favourite a rubbish bin.

In conjunction with the New York City Department of Transportation and New York art gallery PaceWildenstein, David Byrne designed nine unique bicycle racks - far classier than a lampost and installed them in various locations throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Designers/musicians/creatives - get on the phone to your local city council now. We want a similar intiative in a city near us soon.
