Cannes Preview: The Anti-Christ

Posted May 13, 2009

As Cannes film festival kicks off today - Swide brings you a daily review of the rumoured to be Palme d'Or contenders. First up in the Swide series is Lars Von Trier new horror flick starring Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Dafoe.

The recession is reputed to have caused a huge surge in the return to the dark side - and renewed interest in both producing and watching horror movies. Are we looking for those in a worst situation than ourselves or seeking revenge tactics for our-ex bosses we wonder?

Lars Von Trier's new film premiering at Cannes sees a return for the director to his original supernatural themes - first seen in the film The Kingdom. His latest picture is described as "a psychological thriller that evolves into a horror film". Take a look at the film's official trailer below.

The official IMDB’s blurb reveals that the film centres on, "a grieving couple who retreat to their cabin ‘Eden’ in the woods, hoping to repair a troubled marriage. Nature takes its course and things go from bad to worse and the couple's child dies".

As all good modern horror movies go, throw in some mood-altering prescription drugs, a failing marriage and a wood  and you get the foundations for the perfect cult flick.

Click back tomorrow for more in the Cannes Swide Series - plus on Friday we bring you an exclusive interview with designers Stefano Gabbana & Domenico Dolce on their own personal must-see films, including the films they personally wished they'd to starred in.
