Calories have never been so appealing

Posted Aug 12, 2009

If your idea of heaven is a place that's only about pleasure - artist Will Cotton's work could be right up your street. Celebrated for his sugary paintings of gingerbread houses, chocolate forests and ice-cream, Swide gets a five minute sugar fix.

New York based painter Will Cotton is known for his surreal candy landscapes. In an era of lentils and carrot juice his sugar coated paintings appear oddly shocking, perhaps even more so than nudity.

Exploring the themes of temptation, gluttony and indulgence, the paintings revel in the love hate relationship we have with the hard-core substance know as sugar...

His work is currently been showcased as part of an exhibition entitled Transitions: Painting at the (other) end of art until October 31st 2009 as part of the Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia, Italy. This will be followed in spring 2010 with a show at Berlin's Jablonka gallery.
