Aunts are the new muses

Photographer Florian Aschka makes his photography a family affair

Welcome to Auntie Resi's Myspace page www.myspace.com/tanteresi

With a dedicated space, and a soundtrack that asks, “ How do I look?”, Florian Aschka, a young German artist has posted a collection of heartfelt yet stimulating photographs of his beloved "Tante Resi". He has made a worthy subject of this wonderfully eccentric woman, who has captured both our hearts and wardrobes.

On a daily basis, and in a series of natural poses, Aschka has created an affectionate and three-dimensional portrayal of his aunt. Unlike other artists who capture family relationships in a more melancholic manner, the series has a humour that captures a positive aspect of old age, that is often ignored. Aschka's work has a sweet natured feel to it, showcasing an enterprising lady who quite rightly deserves to be immortalised aswell as illustrating style does not have to fade with age (thank goodness!).

On her dedicated Myspace page, Tante Resi is described as a fan of "red puddle Astrid" (no idea either?), eighty-nine years young, who likes holidaying in Ischia, Italy and making art with her nephew Florian Aschka (the only part that is perhaps a tiny bit obvious). I'm sure you'd agree with us when we say, we wouldn't mind spending an afternoon drinking sherry and listening to her stories.

Florian has already posted his profile on the fantastic STUART art site, an on-line portal belonging to the legendary Saatchi Gallery that makes it possible to chat/interact/view work with and from emerging artists and students. You can find a brief interview with Aschka at: www.yatzer.com

Keep it in the family.
