Enrico Costantini’s Venice in the Sky: The Biennale

After enjoying the Summer break, Venice in the Sky's Enrico Costantini is back and ready to share his view of Venice with us all once more. This September, it was the Architecture Biennale

The Biennale Architettura takes place in the Arsenale area and in Giardini, as it does the Biennale Arte. Those are the traditional spaces used since the beginning of the Biennale's History to display the different creations by the artists to the public. The Biennale Architettura has also happening and events located all thorough the city and is renowned world-wide as one of the most important Biennales, calling each year the professionals and lovers of architecture from everywhere.

Each year, the Biennale is dedicated to a special theme. This year, international architects have challenged themselves about the city's space topic. Compared to the other Biennale I have visited, this one used much more tridimensional maquettes, some very complex. Videos have also become an avant-garde form of media to use.

If you are not a professional, It is not always easy to understand the meaning of the projects and the architecture is not like art, which can be interpreted in a personal way, as each single element in architecture has its purpose and you need to understand the essence of it.

I have only had an afternoon to get an idea of the Biennale Achitettura in the Giardini, although I think you should dedicate a whole day to each Pavillon, to be able to really understand what's behind it, but an evening is enough to understand where things will go in the future, where the mainstream is going at least.
