Eat, Relax, Love: Umbria
Montefalco is located in Umbria, a Region in central Italy, one of the smallest regions of the Country and yet one with the most density of beautiful towns and delicious enogastronomy. It borders with Tuscany, Marche and Lazio. Situated in the Perugia province, Montefalco is a beautiful historical town where one of the most appreciated wines is produced, Sagrantino di Montefalco.
Visit the palazzo comunale (XIII Century), St.Agostino Church, the romanic church of San Bartolomeo, the San Francesco Church (XIV Century) and the Santa Chiara della Croce church. In the surroundings, you must visit Spello, Perugia, Bevagna, Trevi, Norcia, Spoleto, Assisi…
The region is named for the Umbri tribe, who eventually became absorbed by the Romans. The modern region of Umbria is different from the Umbria of Roman times, which extended through most of what is now the northern Marche, all the way to Ravenna in Emilia Romagna. After the fall of Rome, when Charlemagne conquered most of the Lombard kingdoms, some Umbrian territories were given to the Pope, who established temporal power over them. Umbra passed from being part of the Papal States to the Italian Kingdom in 1861with the unification.
Umbria is one of the best place on Earth to Eat, Love and relax. The Restaurant at Hotel Palazzo Bontadosi brings to the plate creativity and elegance thanks to the experience of Chef Fabrizio Spera. Flavors that remind of the perfumes of this land and recall the traditional recipes without giving up contemporary cuisine. Among the dishes on menu, Cappellacci (traditional kind of pasta) stuffed with Pecorino di Fossa with toasted pine nuts and Sagrantino Pears; quails’ legs and breast with eggplants, extra fondant flan with fruits of the forest. Order one of the wines on the menu: they are all delicious.
The Spa is beautifully integrated within the building’s medieval cellars. The romantic and ancient situation make this a unique place to relax and regenerate. There is a small salt water pool, build within the ancient cistern were water specific treatments such as watzu massage are on offer. Cromotherapy, very much en vogue at the moment, is offered I the beautiful Hammam decorated with Bisazza mosaics. The spa also offers “emotional” showers, a circuit of water jets target different areas of the body, from the neck to the feet.
