It has been a ‘drumroll’ of a week. The mammoth event that is the London Olympics and Paralympics 2012 is now live and in full effect here in LONDON! And I’m taking every opportunity to get into the spirit and you should too especially if you’re in London during the games. It’s time to soak up this momentous occasion.
Luxury London…. Great places to watch the Olympics..
Luxury London will highlight a few places that will be screening London 2012 Olympic games. London 2012 – Wow! That sounds and is.. so cool!
On your marks…
Camden Beach at The Roundhouse
The strapline ‘You got 99 problems but a beach ain’t one’ got my attention immediately. This must be an inspired nod to the fact that Jay Z headlined here a few years back. This famous venue in Camden has transformed its outside terrace into a beach! Complete with 150 tonnes of real sand, deckchairs, a Tiki hut and Margarita shack, with big screens showing the games. For those of you with children, there is a play area, child-friendly food and Ping-pong for all. This is a win-win situation for those of you with short attention spans as there is so much to do – you’ll definitely forget about your problems here.
This concrete creative oasis is located in Liverpool Street. It’s an amphitheater that transforms all year round; in the winter it becomes an ice-skating rink. They have cinema screenings, giant chess sets and recently a Farmer’s market here. Something is always happening at Broadgate Circle. Throughout the Olympics, the games will be screened continuously and you can watch it all for free in this great outdoor space that makes you forget that you are in one of the financial hubs of the city.
BT London Live at Hyde Park
Hyde Park has the largest big screens in the UK and is showing the entire Olympic and Paralympic games for free, with the exception of the Opening and Closing ceremonies where there will be a charge to see some of Britain’s finest musical acts. As capacity isn’t an issue you’ll be certain to find your ‘spot’ and get into the spirit with your friends and family in one of London’s most beautiful parks. Don’t forget to bring a picnic.
The Sports Cafe London
The clue is in the name. This venue is dedicated to all things sport, all year round, and London 2012 is no exception. They have round the clock live coverage on over 50 screens. It’s open from 11am and food is served all day. There is free entry before 10pm, and after 10pm they are hosting Olympic club nights until 3am, if you are in the mood to party or celebrate – Olympic style!
Duke of York Square
The Duke of York Square is set amongst the fashionable shops and restaurants on the Kings Road in Chelsea. This is another perfect open space for watching the games. They won’t be screening the full schedule but are showing the main events such as the 100m final etc. etc. Luxury picnic boxes are available to buy from Partridges and there’s plenty of Pimms and Pommery Champagne to cheer the athletes on. They are also giving away free blankets but in this soaring heat (yes I said soaring) I don’t think they’ll be needed. But maybe I shouldn’t speak too soon…Did anyone say rain?!!
The 10,000m Olympic gold medalist, Haile Gebrselassie said recently in an interview that
“…It is more than just a race. The Olympics are what people remember and gives you the power to believe in something better: it’s hope.” This made me really get it and understand that these games aren’t about logistics, the weather or even our transport system. They are about hope!
The Olympics and Paralympics are cultural events that bring all races, religions and countries together. For future, younger generations it’s an amazingly positive event for them to experience and aspire to its excellence. So, wherever you are in the world come to together with friends, family and strangers in hope and happiness.
Get, Set and Enjoy watching who will make Olympic history this time round….
Welcome to Luxury London.
