Italian Girl in New York: Survival Guide

Ed Westwick? Check. Anna Sui? Check. High heels? Check. Hello New York Fashion Week! Francesca continues...

Ok last week has been out of control! Anything you could imagine happened to me... First of all at the Tommy Men Presentation I tripped on Ed Westwick (I didn't wanna tell you last time, because it's kinda embarrassing, but this is the truth...at least I didn't fall!); then I've been surrounded on all sides by a group of photographers that mistook me for someone else while exiting Anna Sui show (and it was scary, I had to yell “I am no one!” to make them go away), finally on my way out from the Adam show, I dropped all the seating charts in front of too many photographers and too many male models...great!

In addition my company has a dress code for fashion week, which is total black, and since bags are not allowed, the only thing you can do is to stuff all your possessions, that include keys, moneys, phone, snacks and lipgloss, in your pockets. I looked like a giant (I'm 178 cm tall + heels) obese giraffe!Nice view...

Apart from this New York fashion week has been one of the most amazing experiences in my life!  I've been doing so many different things from backstage check-in to escorting VIPs to their seats...It has been truly great and I've learnt so much!

So as every week I'm providing some tips and this time I'll give you my point of view on how to survive this crazy week that happens twice a year.

Tip #1:  during fashion week you need snacks. I've been living on Luna Bars (I'm addicted to the macadamia and white chocolate ones), they are a true boost of energy, when you're working 24/7 with no chance to have a proper meal.  Plus they were the only snacks that could fit in my pockets.

Tip #2: during fashion weekyou need caffeine. I mean I do need it everyday, but last week, with no more than 5 hrs sleep every night, I was craving for it. Luckily enough for me this year Mercedes Benz and Starbucks got together, providing great iced coffees (I loved the mocha light frappucino!) to all the shows at the Lincoln Center, such a smart collaboration!

Tip #3:  during fashion week you need a smart coat. Something that you can easily take off and on, while getting in and out of shows, that is not excessively heavy and plus it must look amazing!

Tip #4: grocery shopping must be done in advance! Of course I didn't, so I ended up running to Wholefoods at the most incredible hours...Very bad experience. A great thing to do is to stuff your kitchen with (healthy) food a way before fashion week, so that you don't have to rush to Ray's pizza at 2 in the morning...Next time I'll be prepared!

I hope these advices will be useful! See you in a while crocodile! FDA
