It's Super Bowl weekend: what to eat?

It's the night of the year: no, not New Year's Eve, but the one in which real men gather to watch Super Bowl. For all the football addicted who didn't make it to the stadium and are enjoying it from the couch, here are 3 recipes by Gnam Box to give the US hamburger an Italian twist.

It's Superbowl night, the annual championship game of the National Football League and the highest level of professional American football in the United States (that follows after a season that begins in late summer of the previous year), and many of you out there are going to gather with friends to watch it closely.

The luckiest ones are going to get to watch it from the Stadium seats, but what about all the others who are watching it at home on the couch? Can you really leave a group of hungry men (maybe angry too, depending on the game results) without (good) food?

Swide believes that (good) beer needs excellent companionship. That is why we invited Gnam Box (link) to give a new look to the most typical football food, the hamburger.

Here are 3 delicious recipes for a hamburger-from-scratch with an Italian twist. Don’t forget to look at the gallery, too, to have all the steps clear before you begin to cook.

But be aware: they are going to be so delicious that you could be distracted from watching the game...

BEEF BURGER

Let's start with the most typical hamburger, the trusty beef one. (Photo Gallery Images 1-13)

300 gr ground beef (the best you can find)

15 gr potato flakes

oil

pepper

Pour a little water into the potato flakes (that's the secret for an always tender hamburger) and add the mixture to the ground beef.

Also add the pepper and oil.

Mix them together well.

Make the hamburgers using molds.

Put 3 tablespoons of oil in a pan over medium heat and add the hamburger.

When the hamburgers are half cooked turn over them until the other side is cooked too. Salt both the sides.

For a typical italian version we suggest:

durum wheat bread (pane di grano duro)

lettuce

red  onion

tomatoes

mozzarella

basil

CHICKEN BURGER

Some of you prefer white meat, right? Here is a chicken burger recipe... (Photo Gallery Images 14-28)

150 gr chicken breast

1/4 onion

10 gr potato flakes

1 tablespoon parmesan

oil

2 tablespoons milk

parsley

salt

pepper

bread crumbs

With a knife, slice the chicken breast into small pieces.

Then, put the sliced chicken, parsley and onion together. Again, chop them all with a knife, mixing the flavours together.

Put this mixture into a bowl and add the pepper, parmesan, milk and bread crumbs and mix well.

Make the chicken burgers using molds.

Put 3 tablespoons of oil in a pan over medium heat and add your chicken burger.

When it's half cooked turn it over until the other side is cooked too. Salt both the sides.

For your chicken burger we suggest:

bread with sesame seeds

grilled zucchine

radicchio

onion

scamorza

VEGGIE BURGER

Why should veggies be left out on such important night? Here is what Gnam Box suggests for vegetable lovers... (Photo Gallery Images 29-44)

200 gr tinned or soaked chickpeas

1/4 onion

1 potato

1 eggs

parsley

bread crumbs

oil

salt

pepper

Cook the potato in boiling water until soft and leave to cool.

With a knife, chop the onion and the parsley.

Put the chickpeas, potato, chopped onion and parsley in a large bowl. Using a fork crumble all the ingredients together

Add one egg, breadcrumbs, salt and mix very well.

With the mixture, create the veggie burger to the size and shape you prefer.

Cook in a pan with oil over a low heat, turning occasionally. When it begins to brown and becomes crispy it’s ready to serve.

For this veggie version we suggest:

piadina romagnola

grilled aubergines

rocket

red onion

greek yogurt sauce with parsley

Which burger are you?

After slaving away in the kitchen sit down with friends and family to watch the New England Patriots take on the New York Giants. Wherever your loyalties lie this promises to be an engrossing encounter. The Giants stormed into the final after one of the biggest mid-season turn arounds in history and bring a rock solid defence to the fray. They will definitely be underdogs against a much-fancied Patriot side, but this is the Super Bowl and anything can happen. Winner takes all. Enjoy!
