Wow! The Who, Brian May's amazingly grey curly locks, Jessie J's screen time, nightmare inducing Pet Shop Boys, the hips of George Michael, A Spice Girls Reunion and Victoria Beckham's attempt at dancing. London 2012, what a night you gave us!
Great Britain and all who were involved with the London 2012 Olympic Games proved that a nation, commonly thought as of being stuffy and unapproachable, were more than capable of throwing a party to remember and getting everyone and anyone involved. From Boris Johnson dancing to the Spice Girls to Kate Moss' 'Blue Steel', the closing ceremony was an incredible and memorable end to the greatest sport event, ever. What's more, seeing as the British are more than happy to poke fun at themselves, the event churned out some amazing awkward moments and, lucky for us, the internet is awash with them. Here are Swide's top 10.
1. George Michael thrusts at the world.
Well, you never know what to expect from George these days... one thing you can rely on is the that he'll do what Madonna does best, thrust around like there is no tomorrow.
2. Gymnasts on loop.
Don't get us wrong, we are aware that their skills are beyond phenomenal and the shapes these guys were tying themselves into are not to be laughed at... until you see this GIF, that is.
3. Eric Idle Always Look on the Bright Side of Life
Monty Python's Eric Idle made sure that the young hot things, that also took to the stage, didn't steal the show, by giving the audience an EPIC rendition of the sing-a-long classic 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life' and showing us just how apt an British man is at dancing.
4. Lolo Jones passionate lip syncing.
We are all used to the performing persona of Liam Gallagher, too cool to smile and all that, but, thankfully, USA's Lolo Jones was on hand to show the Spice Girls how lip syncing is done. Go on girl.
5. People dressed in newspaper
This won't catch on... enough said.
6. Only Fools and Batman
Something that is beyond British. The iconic scene from Only Fools and Horses, when Rodney and Del Boy's car explodes and they emerge dressed as Batman and Robin. Job done.
7. Jessie J's air guitar...
'Che palle' is what Jessie J would be saying if her hand gestures were being read by an Italian but, sadly, the popstar's movements are an attempt at air guitar. Bless.
8. Boris Johnson dancing to the Spice Girls
An institution in his own right, London's Boris Johnson threw some mighty shapes during 'Spice Up Your Life' and showed the world some proper dad disco dancing. You gotta love him.
9. THE SPICE GIRLS REUNITE!
This was what everyone was waiting for and, wow wow wow, they did not disappoint. With their mash-up of Wanna Be and Spice Up Your Life, the Spice Girls were camper than Christmas and provided us with this amazing GIF...
10. Oh yes... and this one. Victoria Beckham... Swide loves you!
Ok, and one last one... the moment that Posh Spice actually danced!?!?!
