As Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are being hailed as the new Golden couple I couldn’t help but think about the other Justin in my life. Yes, Justin Timberlake and the romance that once kept tongues talking with the infamous Britney Spears.
I know this is old news but I saw Justin Timberlake wearing Dolce&Gabbana on Saturday Night Live and it inspired me to write an article about him. Then I saw that my Swide colleague had published an article about Britters and I found myself having an emotional episode. I want to take the chance to reflect on MY original Golden couple before the memory is long gone.
To explain why I hold on to this memory I have compiled my top 5 reasons.
Firstly, they had history! A deep, profound history that they shared, I mean, they were both on the Disney Channel showing my generation how to have fun, sing, dance and clap. They met over Micky’s big white gloves and little did they know that they were destined for one another.
The wardrobe!!! They proudly matched (for want of a word) where possible and, wow, they certainly showed us some treats. A personal favourite of mine is the memorable denim ensembles that they wore at the 2001 American Music Awards. Love it!
If they weren’t matching at award ceremonies they were matching on the court. They had nicknames for each other that they had emblazoned on their matching basketball strips… could basketball be made anymore sweet.
They were hot… this is a fact. See below.
They showed the corrupt world that was still hope for sweet, committed love and they gave the youth role model to look up to. It was wholesome, healthy and full of respect. Something that we could all learn from I think.
And last but not least the fact that they had SO much fun together… if you type in Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake into Google Images and hit search you are dazzled rows upon rows of teeth as they laugh and smile. Now that is my kind of couple.
Here is the video of him, wearing Dolce&Gabbana with Lady Gaga, that started my emotional journey:
And the article about Britney Spears.
But alas, I will finish this article here and, after the final full stop, let go of this memory once and for all. Consider this my emotional outlet and you my psychiatrists. Thank you, farewell Justney Spearlake.
