Katy Perry’s gran keeps her grounded

The style of Katy Perry is world famous - from her candy-like constructions, down to her action-man attitude – and, with the end of the Teenage Dream era, we are all waiting to see what else the super star has up her sleeve. Well, for Vogue Italia, she goes Andy Warhol Chic on us… something her gran should be worried about.

Why do I mention her gran? Well, for those that have seen ‘Katy Perry: Part Of Me’ on the big screen, you will have noticed that the film’s real star is actual Katy’s grandmother. Perry says that her grandmother, 91-year-old Ann Hudson, keeps her grounded due to the fact that she doesn’t acknowledge her success and can’t understand the fuss that surrounds her daughter. She says, ‘My grandmother is in the movie and she steals the show, she is living in Las Vegas and she doesn't acknowledge my success at all, which is exactly what I need.’

Most of us need to be kept with a foot in normality at the best of times but when you’re a hit making machine like Katy, it can be easy to start to revel in one’s success in a less humble manner. Ann Hudson has also commented on that looks that Perry has donned during her music career, commenting on her recent purple hair and saying, ‘it’s not all hers… where’d you get it from? The 99cents store?’ And there we were thinking that Katy’s sense of sarcasm had a helping hand from ex-husband Russel Brand, but clearly her it’s her gran that shaped her cheeky humour.

Talking of looks, I wonder what her grandmother would have to say about the beatnik/Andy Warhol inspired look that she’s trying out, in the pages of Vogue Italia and shot by Francesco Carrozini. We think that she looks as hot as ever, even when channelling beatnik beauty, giving the shoot a huge blast of dark yet delicate femininity in Dolce&Gabbana FW13. In an interview with Vogue Italia, she says, ‘"I like small boutiques, handmade garments, ornamental details. It all depends on how I am when I wake up. But, by and large, I like anything that is fun. One of my favorite American designers is Jeremy Scott: I adore him because he doesn't play along, and I do the same.’

You can see Katy Perry playing with her sense of style in the docu-film ‘Katy Perry: Part Of Me’ which has just hit the cinemas. Check out the trailer below:
