When France loves Italy: Franca Sozzani

We all know that there’s no love lost between Italy and its neighbour France. The two countries compete like siblings in wine, cuisine, sports and of course in fashion. Sometimes, like real siblings a truce ensued and admiration support and love for one another is displayed, very publicly.

This not so rare show of mutual respect and fondness was shown yesterday in the occasion when Franca Sozzani, Editor in Chief of Vogue Italia received the Legion d’Honeur. Clad in a beautifully ornate shift dress that rivalled the opulence of the furnishings of the Elysee Palace, Sozzani was rewarded with the highest honour in the French Republic for her contribution to fashion and for the promotion of French fashion around the world.

Sozzani was singled out for this honour not only for her super partes admiration for French designs, but also for being a risk taker in her work. She’s been at the helm of Vogue Italia for 24 yrs and its never grown stale.

Sozzani’s contribution to fashion is constantly recognized, both by the public, the institutions and the fashion set. Interview magazine in March features a revealing interview about Sozzani’s work and aesthetics.
