Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield: love and learning

The leading lady of The Amazing Spider-Man, Emma Stone, has been gushing about her on-and-off screen boyfriend, Andrew Garfield. Not only are they in love, Stone says that she is learning from him as well… learning what, exactly?

Well, don’t go getting all giggly now, as she was just talking about him as an actor and that, ‘he is so incredibly present and fluid and it was an honour to act with him’. When Stone was having an interview on The Today Show, she kept quiet when things turned to questions of a romantic nature but was more than happy to discuss her man as an inspirational actor, bless. And just look at them at the premiere of The Amazing Spider Man in Madrid, how damn cute do they want to look? Together now, ‘awwwwwwww!’

The star is one of the most sought after, on the scene at the moment, and even Garfield commented on what the experience of working with her is like, saying it’s like, ‘diving into a thrilling, twisting river and never holding onto the sides’. We’re guessing that this is a positive compliment and that the river isn’t going to be drowning him, leading to a tragedy. Speaking of tragedy, it is fate of Gwen Stacy that also attracted Emma Stone to the role, saying that the way in which the character dies, in the comics, at the hands of Green Goblin is, ‘shocking and horrifying and kind of beautiful in some way’. The details of Gwen Stacey’s fate were kept heavily under wraps until the film started premiering in the world cinemas, and it’s a fate that we are going to leave unmentioned (we don’t want to spoil it for you now, do we?).

Reviews have already been coming in saying that Garfield’s portrayal is beyond different to that of Tobey Maguire’s, saying that the slightly arrogant attitude gives the whole movie a restless, reckless energy and a welcome sense of danger. Stone’s Gwen has been equally praised as capturing the sweet, girl next-door character that we’ve all come to love and know but also being successfully portrayed with as much depth and sensitivity as you’d expect from a superhero’s love interest. Brava.

Even though Emma Stone is an internationally known and adored star, who shouldn’t be worried about her future in cinema, she actually has a backup plan, should everything hit the fan; a career in journalism. She told Ann Curry that, ‘I would have loved to be a journalist. I realise now, as I get older, I really would love to be an editor’. That would be interesting to see the actress on the other side of fame, writing about the stars rather than being written about.

What do you think? We think she is right where she belongs, on the big screen.
