Last week saw the 178th episode of Desperate Housewives’ playout in true form; full of twists and turns, Bree’s previous adventures coming back to haunt her and loose ends slowly being tied together. What will be the fate of Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria’s adored characters? This Sunday’s double-bill finale will reveal all…
The end is nigh – Desperate Housewives leaves our screens
It is one of the biggest the television events year, saying goodbye to ABC’s Desperate Housewives isn’t going to be easy and I am sure that all the fans out there are in for a royal treat. Promising to tie up many of the loose ends that have emerged during the eight years that it has been on our screens, the show’s finale is set to get us, the viewers, smashing dishes as the tension builds throughout the double bill. What will be the verdict of Bree’s trial? Will Lynette and Tom get back together? Then there are the stresses of Susan along with the pregnant Julie and not forgetting the fiery Gaby who is on the verge of seeing her husband going to prison. OH THE DRAMA!

Well, many people will be asking themselves how they will cope post DH (that’s how cool kids call it when in discussion)? Well, many of you seem to cope without Sex and the City being on our screens by becoming ladies that lunch (in groups of four, of course) and, so maybe, sets of women and their husbands will go about living their lives Wisteria Lane Style… but I think real life is already dramatic without feeling the need to ham it up a bit more.

From the famous man-boobs (moobs) of Jesse Metcalfe’s gardener character, Lynette’s battle with cancer, to the problematic Edie and so on and so forth, the characters of Desperate Housewives will forever be remembered as one of the most wonderfully dysfunctional set of women that graced our screens. But, after having spent eight years with us, it is time for the ladies to leave us and move on to other projects and, no, that does not include a feature film. No, according to creator Marc Cherry, who feels that the women of Wisteria Lane and the depth of their characters have been successfully explored since the show’s first outing in 2004. One thing Cherry has said is that the final episode will echo the pilot episode, confirming that it is ‘completely bittersweet’.
Swide can’t wait to see what happens to the cast on and off screen but will it be worth the wait… only Sunday 13th May will tell.
