Domenico Dolce's CAMPIONI BOOK: the pictures

‘Campioni’ is the labour of love by Domenico Dolce; a publication that will be celebrated with an exclusive exhibition, during the MSS13 fashion shows of Milan. The lens of Domenico Dolce’s camera has captured portraits of young footballers from Italy’s Serie A and will be presented in a book, binding the world of football and art together, with Mr. Dolce’s vision.

Capturing the football players off the pitch, Mr. Dolce has paid homage to both the physical attributes and the sportsmen as individuals, in his photography. By creating a visual dialogue between the footballer and photographer, Mr. Dolce has married two worlds that, at times, can seem estranged to each other but two worlds that, are in fact, closely linked and is presented in a way that only Dolce&Gabbana can do; capturing the male physic, teaming it perfectly with the classic tailoring of the designers – a true expression of the Italian male. Stefano Gabbana comments, ‘‘In Domenico’s photos, fashion and sport meet and confront each other. They talk about style and male aesthetic. His images do not promote a product, they are portraits. They speak to the heart’.

Whilst discussing the book, Domenico Dolce says, ‘‘I strongly believe in this book. With my images I wanted to pay tribute to the strength and innocence of these players and at the same time I wanted to realise one of my dreams; to take photographs’.

And that is certainly what the iconic designer has done. He has included talents both established and up-and-coming, asking them to leave their football strips in the locker room and reveal the man behind the hero.
