You can always count on the British to bring a little eccentricity to a red carpet event. Last night’s Grammys were no exception as Londoner Imogen Heap turned up in what became the “Twitter” dress… Taking live from the red carpet to a whole new level!
Twitter, the new Grammys designer on the block
Awards season are exciting times for design houses who get to see celebrities in their best party frocks on the red carpet – one designer we weren’t expected to shine at last night’s Grammys is Twitter. British songstress Imogen Heap may not have topped the best dressed list but her interactive number did raise a few eyebrows. It came with a built-in Twitter feed around the neckline, and her matching clutch featured videos sent by fans.
In her own words: “This necklace has a live Twitter feed. I’ve got a wireless router here, which is heating up my belly nicely. And here’s a television with videos my fans are sending to my account. Now they’re accompanying me down the red carpet.” Why bother with a single date when you can bring your entire fanbase?
Britney Spears’ smile and good looks spoke a thousand words. (Dress by Dolce & Gabbana)
Honourable mention to Britney Spears who almost tricked us into thining she, oops, may have done it again; while onloookers may have sneared from a distance at the sight of her naked thighs, it then transpired she had actually managed to upstage the more awaited stars of the evening by doning the A-list favourite delicate lace dress over a black bodice. Together with the darker locks and appeased, contented expression she was every inch the bombshell with a slight Sicilian accent.
The ultimate siren in a fishtail gown by Dolce & Gabbana.
Other than that it was the usual case of the good (pop sensation turned screen siren Keri Hilson was a sight in blush pink Dolce & Gabbana; Nicole Kidman looked chic in Prada black and much more relaxed than her often icy self… a continuing trend after her sizzling photoshoot a few months back?), the bad (not ones for the dissing but we wondered how some people ever got past security and made it onto the red carpet), and the whatever (Lady Gaga in another “statement” dress… or is that lack thereof?).
Joe Jonas (top center) and Robert Downey Jr both got speccy in D&G.
Once more though the boys were the one to grab all the attention by turning up the dapper… We did a double take on the Jonas brothers who looked 100% yummy and 0% kids telly; “maturity” definitely suits these not-so-teenage sensations. Robert Downey Jr showcased an example of more seasoned but magnetically handsome maturity. No red carpet would be complete without *that* Chace Crawford stare – luckily for early birds he attended to Salute to the Icons event the day before the ceremony and worked his magic (with a little help from his suave Dolce & Gabbana attire).

While her younger sister Cara might be getting all the model attention, right now, there is no doubt the older sister Poppy Delevingne can still show her little sis’ a thing or two about being the wild one.
You could forgive us for thinking that Scarlett Johansson and Matthew McConaughey were on some sort luxurious date, judging by the way the stars have their arms draped lovingly around each other. But is all as it seems?
