Exclusive interview with Eilidh MacAskill from InStyle.UK

Editor-in-chief Eilidh MacAskill talked to Swide on the occasion of a very private cocktail event instore on Old Bond street-London.

InStyle.UK is about to unveil a special to archive December issue covered by a golden shot of Christina Aguilera. December is a celebration month but also the time of year when your favourite magazines give you their thoughts and inspirations for the new year about to start. Lucky Swide, we were invited to a sparkling and bubbling happening and enjoyed a conversation with Eilidh MacAskill. A stylish interviewed on InStyle.UK's in & out of style predictions for 2011 and a taste of a much anticipated December issue to hit the kiosk very soon.

1. What makes InStyle unique, how would you qualify its approach to fashion?
EM: Instyle is the smartest, warmest, most conversational fashion and beauty bible – showcasing the very best in up and coming talent in film, fashion and music. We always entertain and yet crucially, are always relevant. And we never ever rest on our laurels. We are always looking for ways to keep it fresh.  I also have the best fashion team! It is all about the edit. Every piece we feature in the magazine is the very best of its genre.

2. What inspired you for the December 2010 issue?
EM: December  is always about celebration, upbeat glamour, surviving the season (!) and as many great party tips and tricks as you can fit into one magazine! It is about having fun.

3. What is Dolce&Gabbana to you?
EM: To me, Dolce & Gabanna means  breathtaking shows – where the girls somehow look even more beautiful and more feminine than on other catwalks. (I am not sure how you do it!). Dolce & Gabbana is about unashamed glamour, mixed with wit, couture level craftsmenship and the huge, exciting personalities of the designers.

4. Why have you chosen Christina Aguilera for the cover?
EM: It has been a big year for Instyle (advertising and sales are up despite the economy) and I wanted a talent who could help us say goodbye to 2010 with a definite flourish. Christina is individual, superbly talented, strong and exceedingly sexy and glamourous. She was the perfect choice.

5. What do you want us to understand instantly by looking at this Dec 2010 cover?
EM: I want you to think how beautiful Christina looks, how fabulous the Dolce & Gabbana outfit is, to feel included and excited by the promise of instant glamour, fashion insider exclusives, great reads and beautiful visuals. A smart relevant read.

6. What should we look forward to read?
EM: Obviously everyone should read my interview with Stefano and Domenico. I asked celebrites and other designers to pose questions for the duo and it made for a great interview. We have also lined up a brilliant selection of young up and coming hot young female talent in the Dolce & Gabbana portfolio, we have an essay on the return of the big spenders, the best comedy talent in the UK musing about their finiest Christmas memories and of course Christina herself, talking about how important her sexuality is to her personal style.

7. How does 2011 look so far?
EM: It looks busy! We have many projects up and running for 2011 across both print, video and web. It is also our tenth anniversary, so really it will be a big year for us.

8. Eighties were back, now some refers to the nineties, next summer should be “Oh, so “ seventies, do you think fashion is only recycling or do you still see some real newness?
EM: It only feels like recycling when the references are way too literal. Otherwise, I do see newness and modernity in the overall seasonal mix. And also, neverunderestimate a real woman’s ability to see beyond the styling and choose the pieces that SHE will make modern and make fresh, by the way she personally wears it.
