Before Neverland was filled with ghosts and empty rooms full of CNN journalists – it was of course home to superstar Michael Jackson. We take a peek at the possessions he refused to auction and an insight into the real King of Pop.
Aside from Michael Jackson the entertainer, he was also an enthusiastic and avid collector of everything from exquisite antiques to prized entertainment and popular culture memorabilia. At the end of last year, auction house Julien’s displayed items from Michael’s Neverland ranch intended for sale. The items were withdrawn at the last minute - the footage however remains.
It’s rumoured (according to nymag.com) that a posthumous Michael Jackson auction by Julien’s auction house is already under way.
According to a statement at the time of the aution being cancelled, “There was so much interest from so many of Jackson’s fans that instead of putting the items in the hands of private collectors, Dr. Tohme and Julien’s Auction House have made arrangements that will allow the collection to be shared with and enjoyed by Jackson’s fans for many years to come,” the statement said.
Larger-than-life superheroes inspired Michael Jackson’s iconic concert costumes.
Ironically as the King of Pop became one of the defining aspects of 1980′s popular culture, he too became an avid collector of the decade’s memorabilia.
