Effortlessly passing for a young Sicilian woman, Kate King stars in Dolce&Gabbana’s SS13 campaign with Monica Bellucci, Zuzanna Bijoch, Bianca Brandolini d’Adda and a pack of Southern Italian gents. Not bad for a girl who got snapped up by model scouts at the age of 13.

When you first set eyes on Miss. King, you would be forgiven for thinking that this girl comes with a hefty ego to boot, but that isn’t the case. When I got the chance to interview her backstage at the Dolce&Gabbana FW13 show, I was pleasantly surprised to find that this young woman is a class act; full of energy, slightly shy and with a subtle sense of sarcasm. What more could you want? Oh, and there is the minor fact that she is annoyingly gorgeous and, yes, even before hair and makeup.

So why is that you should love Kate King as much as I do?

People over products: First of all, she really loves what she does and, what’s even better, is the fact that it isn’t the glitz and glam of her career that keeps her inspired, it is the people that Kate meets on a daily basis that fuel her passion for what she does. Nice.

European state of affairs: Kate may have been born and raised in Canada but there is no denying that many of the shoots that she has starred in have seen her taking on the Europeans. From the Mediterranean to Eastern Europe, Kate King has a chameleon like quality that allows her looks to flit between continents to country…. She even passed for Russian in a shoot based on the 1983 film ‘Nostalghia’ by Amo Frugia, seen below.

Rock chick at heart: I’m a huge music fan and when I found out that Kate was into 60/70s rock and psychedelic artists like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Dire Straits I knew that we were going to get along just fine. What’s better than a girl who knows how to rock out?

No stress: You never see this girl looking out of her depth or flustered. Kate brings a sense of calm to the backstage of any show or shoot, influencing those around her. This low maintenance model is a no fuss kind of gal, making her a favourite of designers all over the world.

Dishes the dirt: Well, okay, we’re not talking gossip here but Kate does think that I am a, ‘very nice man’. Compliments get you everywhere and Kate has no issues with dishing them out. Models usually command the attention but Kate was more than happy to share the love, too.
