Can 5th in line Bea come 1st in fashion?

She’s the 5th, and first female, in the line of succession for the throne, the big sister of the lovely Princess Eugenie and… fashion icon? Princess Beatrice is making a stand in the style stakes.

Even though Princess Beatrice has always had an individual sense of fashion (the choices that she made during her university years were dashed across the British papers), it wasn’t until she stepped out of the car, for the Royal Wedding of Kate and Wills in 2011, wearing THAT hat by Philip Treacy that the world took note of the young princess.

Yes, although fashion bloggers and onlookers quickly mocked Treacy’s creation, it was that hat and that ceremony which prompted interest into the wears of Princess Beatrice. Although the fascinator-come-hat was subject to ridicule around the world, she certainly made a name for herself and also ended up having the last laugh when it fetched £81,101 on eBay for the UNICEF and Children in Crisis through her Little Bee Initiative, which was set up for the purpose of this auction. The last laugh indeed.

Well, since then it would seem that the darling Beatrice has been going up in the style stakes, gaining ground on the newly appointed Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton or, more accordingly, Catherine Elizabeth Middleton, whose flair with fashion has been widely embraced since she ‘stepped’ on to the scene. Yes, Princess Beatrice is making her own mark, making bold statements by wearing the world’s finest designers just like you would find movie A-Listers making on the red carpet. She’s wowed the crowds at British Fashion Awards in November 2012, has had her style praised by countless magazines and blogs and tried to upstage her grandmother’s Diamond Jubilee. Even Christmas presented an opportunity for Beatrice to hit all the right notes.

The Princess wore to the traditional Christmas Day service attended by members of the Royal Family at St Mary Magdalane Church, Sandringham in England. She graced the occasion wearing a Dolce&Gabbana beige jewel buttoned crepe coat, a coat that silver screen siren also Lucy Liu wore. Fair play, Beatrice.

So, it would seem that we have another member of the Royal Family to sit up and take note of. It was inevitable that the Philip Treacy hat was going to lead to great things. She may be 5th in line to the throne, but were better that she’s got first place in mind when it comes to being taken as seriously as a Royal Fashion Icon.
