Kylie Minogue has just finished celebrating 25 years in music and it seems like that was enough for her. Is she about to ditch it all for acting and returning to the Australian TV show, Neighbours, that kick started her career?
Ramsey Street return! Is Kylie Minogue set for Neighbours?
Kylie Minogue has been causing a ruckus the last few weeks, playing with our hearts by revealing that she could turn her back on music for acting. The news came after she split from her manager Terry Blamey and now the actress-turned-musician-and-apparently-turning-back-to-actress feels that 2013 presents her with the perfect opportunity to focus back on what it was that first brought her to our attention, acting. Over the last 5 years, Kylie Minogue has treated us to appearances on television and in film, her most recent being in Leos Carax’s ‘Holy Motors’, which received rave reviews, highlighting Minogues performance as impressive. It would seem that she’s learned a lot since her early days on Australian television;
Before storming the pop world, Kylie Minogue won over our hearts in 1986 as the adorable Charlene Mitchell in Aussie soap-opera, Neighbours, a series based on the residents of Ramsey Street that also spawned pop singer Jason Donovan. Her on and off screen relationship with Jason Donovan became hot gossip, even when she left the show in 1988. After leaving Neighbours, Kylie embarked on her pop career, hitting the big time with her song ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ putting her on course for pop stardom.
I think you’ll agree with me, if I was to say that this video is ridiculously endearing. But what has everyone has really been thinking is, ‘what the hell is she going to do?’.
Well, what would you say if she was to return to Ramsey Street and resurrect her role as Charlene Mitchell/Robinson?
This is the character that pushed her into the public consciousness in the first place… imagine if she was to walk down Ramsey Street, 25 years later? Obviously, Kylie would have to do it in style and judging by the standards of today\s television, she would have to do something shocking; Meth addicted mother? On the run from the police for murder? or stealing a man from one of the show’s main characters? You know, something light and entertaining.
Well, 2013 will see her star in ‘Walking on Sunshine’, a musical romance set to the score of popular hit songs from the 80s and based in present day Spain. So, her first appearance since celebrating K25 won’t be too far removed from what we know and love her for.
We can’t wait. But it’s her return to Neighbours that we’re waiting for.
