Photographer Ellen Fisch is taking photography in a new direction and has unveiled her work to audiences of the Jadite Galleries in New York.
New York based Architectual / art photographer Ellen Fisch is taking her work to the next level, experimenting with her many sepia and black and white stills of buildings, architectural details and construction sites and embellishing them with different media. By playing with pencil, charcoal and pastel pens, Fisch’s aim is to add depth to her work and increase the visual appeal of her architectural photographs in artistic ways.
The result is something rather glorious, if not understated and subtle. By printing her images onto fine art paper, Fisch has opened up her work to endless possibilities, choosing the media aforementioned and finishing off with the surprise addition of gold leaf. The gold leaf she is using varies in colour; white, gold and moon-gold (never heard of the last one but it sounds fancy) and Ellen has used the leaf to accent the areas highlighted with pencil, charcoal etc.
Having an extensive fine art background, Ellen says, ‘I love taking photographs of architecture. I am always captivated by architecture as a photographer,’ going on to say that, ‘The idea of incorporating my fine art drawing skills into my photography has been in my mind for several years. I needed to formulate the concept of combining my love of architectural drawing with photography to accomplish my goal.’
The photography of Ellen Fisch is celebrated for its ability to capture the essence of a city, exploring the crafted details of architecture and presenting work that reflects a ‘bygone age of unparalleled elegance and style’. Something which Fisch set about doing for her new project, photographing Brooklyn’s Park Slope/Prospect Park as she has a shared past with the landmark.
