New Music Artists
To watch 2015:
Part 2

New music talent 2015 best singers and bands to watch out for including Slaves, Joey Badass, Tei Shi, Milk Teeth

Following on from part 1 of the bands you should watch in 2015, I’ve got another 10 talented music acts for you today, ranging from exciting new hip hop acts to fast and furious fresh punk from the UK.

With so much talent to get excited about in the coming year, I found it way to difficult to whittle down my favourites to a mere list of 10, meaning that I’ve got a total of 20 new music acts for you to get your heads around. Before you take a look at the guys below, check out Part 1 here.

Leon Bridges
Wow, what a voice and sound this guy has got. For those of you who love soul and mowtown classics, Leon Bridges emulates that famous, warm and global sound that gave us some of the world’s most famous music artists, and puts his own stamp on it. A couple of months ago he put a couple of his tracks up his Soundcloud page for free and, needless to say, he’s been up and down the Hype Machine charts and blogged about constantly. Though this young man is right at the start of his career, his smooth crooning way with music is nostalgic as it is fresh and a welcome relief to the electronic life we live in.

Shura
Say hello to Russian singer, songwriter, remixer and video editor Shura, whose soothing pop jam ‘Touch’ won over the blogs this year. Think Janet Jackson, Brandy and beats from Lisa Stansfield and you’re getting warm. The 23-year old has already gained famous fans, the likes of Jessie Ware, Jungle, Chloe Moretz, and she’s busy working on her debut album which will be released on Polydor Recrods.

Milk Teeth
Another 90s girl rock charged band here, and this time it’s Bristol’s grunge rock outfit Milk Teeth, bringing sweet and scuzz together in harmony. The foursome are channeling that kind of early Green Day, Garbage and Nirvana style sound and it’s great. They have a great EP to their name that was released in 2013, called ‘Smiling Politely’ and it’s a great introduction to them. On January 26 they release their first proper EP called Sad Sack and it’s supported by an epic tour of the UK. Check them out now!

Osca
These four guys are creating epic piano led stadium ready pops songs that have slowly been creeping into my life through Soundcloud, ever since I came across their wonderful track ‘Blood’ a few months ago. Since then they’ve continued to charm me with their other releases ‘Illume’, ‘Around The Bends’ and, most recently, ‘Trumpets’. They are cute, charming and are great at writing a damn catchy tune. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of these guys in the near future. Keep it up. Watch an wonderful performance of ‘Blood’ below.

Joey Bada$$
This guy! Who doesn’t know him? He’s notched up millions of plays, likes and followers over the last few years with his solo mixtapes, dozen of carefully crafted hiphop tracks and, finally, the promise of his debut album. Penned in for January 20, B4.Da.$$ was proceeded by ‘Big Dusty’ in August 2014, followed by ‘Christ Conscious’ and then ‘No. 99’.  What I love about Joey Bada$$ is that we’ve seen him develop as an artist on the fringes of mass-media hype. Over the years, his mixtapes have shown his potential as a writer, lyricist and producer but it’s in 2014, with the run up to his debut album, that he’s been putting his message, anger and rhythms together like never before. His latest track comes with a hard hitting video that is sure to gain wider attention.

Shamir
Could this guy be any more 2014??? I love him… even if he makes me feel old. Born 1994 in Las Vegas, Shamir is surrounded by a musical family that exposed him to all sorts of genres and, at the age of 9, he started playing guitar. His voice has become quite the talking point being neither immensely masculine or feminine, which he’s ok with, and has been identified as being countertenor. His latest track ‘On The Regular’ is the most pout there track he’s put out to date, just compare it to his Northtown EP released in June 2014, here… and now listen to ‘On The Regular’. He’s great right? This guy is smart, talented and has a bright future.

Tei Shi
Her live shows have been hypnotizing crowds and critics, and her r&b electonic pop is getting bloggers all giddy. Hailing from New York, her Saudade EP, showcases what she does perfectly, spanning breathlessly cool ballads to nice electro fused dream pop, all served with her clear, fresh vocals. Tei Shi is the moniker of Valerie Teicher and she works with producer Luca Buccellati. She’s sweet and sensual but doesn’t leave you feeling sick or over sexed. It’s like a great summer’s day with the right ratio of sweet and savory snacks. Respected blogs have been raving about her and have donned her with the tiara as ‘one to watch’.

Courtney Bennett
There’s something very likeable Courtney Bennett, who covers, remixes and writes her own material, notching up quite a few fans and admires in the music business. She’s got vocals that remind people of the ladies from Eternal, Sade and Aaliyah. Not bad. Well, we are yet to find out when she’s release her own music and on which label but it won’t be long until she does.

Only Real
Without wanting to insult this guy, he shouldn’t make videos. His music is pretty damn brilliant but his videos just kind of ruin the quality of what he does. Just check out his track ‘Pass The Pain’ after the jump and then listen to his most recent track ‘Yesterdays’. Maybe you’ll agree, maybe you’ll think I’m a dick. Either way, yes, I think this guy is on to something good. We’ve had a lot of those gentle, troubadour style male solo artists the last couple of years and it’s about time we had a guy with a bit more bite to his craft to step up again. His guys got grit, haze, cheek and talent. He rminds me of Weezer, Fun Lovin’ Criminals and Talking Heads. I like it.

Slaves
YES PLEASE! With Royal Blood reinvigorating the sound of British rock n roll, paving the way for a return ‘1969 Death From Above’, we now have Slaves who, just like the others, have worked their arses off to get them where they are today. They have been put on the longlist for the BBC Sound of 2015 and have just signed up to a major label. Just like the aforementioned Royal Blood, these two guys sure know how to make a lot of noise and their social observations make for great, straight talking lyrics. Just check out the energy these two create on UK TV show Later… With Jools Holland.
