3 songs to... add a flair of France to your Friday

Mood Swings is prepping himself for Cannes Film Festival 2012 by delving into his catalogue of French vinyl and cassettes and, with a spot of patience, has selected 3 songs to add some French Fancy to your Friday

If you've seen Luca Finotti's latest video for Swide ('Italiana' featuring Bianca Balti), then you know what sort of vibe the Cannes festival inspires in me. While obviously the video is set somewhere in Italy (I like to think it's the Amalfi coast), you don't need a too big leap in imagination to believe it was set in the Côte d'Azur. Try watching the video again but with legendary Yves Montand's most famous song playing:

If anyone happens to have a convertible, I'm ready to leave: the  glitz & glamour awaits. To get there, we'll probably be driving through the most famous road in France: the Nationale 7, also known as "route des vacances". Charles Trenet dedicated a song to it in 1959, and genius electro-french-german-duo Stereo Total paid him an homage in 2001. I can't decide which version I like best so here's both:

Once there, it's all about rocking the red carpet. Since I'm not a star (yet), I've got to make sure to make a real entrance. Jean Paul Gaultier gave us the perfect tune to work that carpet in 1989:
