5 from Alt-J – Made for the Mercury Music Prize

The Mercury Music Prize will be screened internationally on Wednesday the 10th October, getting music lovers tense with anticipation as to who will win the album of the year. A hot contender is UK's Alt-J. Here's 5 videos to show you why.

Maybe you’ve heard of these guys already, if you haven’t, then I am happy to introduce you to your new favourite band. Nominated for the Mercury music prize 2012, this quartet have been lighting up the indie music scene with their electronic glitch indie thats laced with processed style hip hop beats and folk-esque vocals. Here are 5 videos to show you why they are on the road to big things.

Last week saw their most recent release, ‘Something Good’ graced with a video, one that displays the growth in their popularity that these 4 guys have gone through since the debut album, ‘An Awesome Wave’, got all us music lovers beyond excited. Their name Alt-J comes from the keyboard command to create the Greek letter ‘Delta’ ∆.

To pick apart their music, it is near impossible, as the layers, influences and genres that it weaves in and out of is mind blowing. It has been called layered, folk-inflected, dub-pop… not too far off what it is that they’ve achieved, but this misses out the depth of the lyrics and harmonies that they guys are capable of.

And now what? Well, they’re now odds on for favourite to win the Mercury prize award Wednesday 10 October. Want to hear why? Here are 5 videos that have come from their huge debut album ‘An Awesome Wave’. Enjoy.
