Packing for the holidays. Is there anything worse? I can barely plan my life a few hours ahead, let alone decide what I’m gonna wear for the next two weeks. What if there’s an impromptu social occasion? A pool party? A toga party? A wedding to crash? This usually results in me lugging around most of my earthly possessions halfway across the country and back.
3 songs to… help you vacate your head this holiday
Some might argue that packing for coming back home is a lot worse, and yes, they might have a point…but at least at home I’ve got some decent closet space.
Maybe I should just stay where I am.
Here’s a remix of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros’ “Home” by RAC (Remix Artist Collective) – make sure you check out their Soundcloud page, it’s full of great remixes, most of them downloadable for free. They have recently released their first production, called “Hollywood”, in collaboration with Penguin Prison.

Of course I’m exaggerating, I don’t think anyone would stay in Milan in August by choice. Although the thought might cross your mind if you knew about Italian travelling habits – I spoke about my misadventures at Milan’s Linate airport exactly one year ago here on Swide, but that’s nothing compared to Italian highways. Getting to your holiday destination by car is probably the worst idea ever – but we Italians love our cars and endure endless hours of traffic jams (while complaining, of course).
As the Kaiser Chiefs sang back in 2007, in the third single off their second album ‘Yours Truly, Angry Mob’: “It’s only ‘cause you follow what the others do, it’s no excuse to say you’re easily lead”.

Of course I was complaining too just a minute ago. It’s what we do. We complain and never do much about finding a solution to our problems. That’s probably the reason why when someone comes along and tells us he’ll take care of all our issues, we like to believe him – if it’s true our problems will be solved, if not we’ll be left with someone to blame.
Now forgive me but I have to go back to complaining how little space I have in my suitcase. I’ll leave you with an appropriate song off Swedish talent Lykke Li’s first album ‘Youth Novels’ (2008):

With a whole lot of Ls releasing new music and videos this week, the likes of Lorde and Lana Del Rey have been taking over social media and England’s Leona Lewis is getting all Christmassy.
Her new 27-minute short film for Tropico is here. Once described as something concocted in David Lynch’s dreams, the femme fatale Lana Del Rey has just released her eagerly anticipated Tropico film… as well as her second album Ultraviolence for 2014.
