I seem to be thinking a lot about Belgium lately. I have very little ties to the country itself; my aunt lives in Brussels and I've been there quite a few times, I've read all there is to read and seen all there is to see about the siege of Bastogne in 1944 (yup, history geek here) but other than that the main reason linking me to that country in recent times is music.
The Belgian scene has been spewing out some of my favourite producers of late - not just 2ManyDJs, without a doubt the most famous of them all, but also Aeroplane, The Glimmers, The Magician (formerly a member of Aeroplane), A.N.D.Y., Mickey…
Mickey is one of my favourites of late. His track 'Love for Sale' featuring lyrics by Monarchy (check out the interview they did with Swide) is one of my favourite tracks this year, and his nu disco/house rework of Montevideo's 'Horses' is my self-appointed track of the summer.
Mickey – Love for Sale
The Glimmers have been working together for more than two decades, setting dancefloors on fire, remixing artists such as The Killers, The Chemical Brothers, Bloc Party, Calvin Harris (to name a few) and producing their own music on the side too.
Here's one of my favourite dancefloor tracks, I've been playing this in clubs for nearly two years now.
The Glimmers - Whomp that Sucker
The Magician started off as the second member of the Aeroplane duo, which split in 2010, just as Aeroplane was gaining it's worlwide fame. Since then he's been doing some truly amazing remixes and has started producing as 'Peter & The Magician', paired up with french electro maestro Yuksek.
Here's to you one of my favourite remixes of the year, I think it's perfect for a summer sunset.
Wolf Gang – Stay and Surrender (The Magician Carribean Disco Remix)
