Mood Swings got us toning up last week, in preparation for Men’s Fashion Week, and this week he’s already thinking about who the hell he will meet on the streets of Milano. Not only is this a week of fashion, it is also a week for the fame hungry and those pretending to be fashion icons.
In the sweltering heat that has decided to hit this past weekend, we are waiting for Fashion Week to kick off. The streets are filling up with models, Twitter is ablaze with the #MFW hashtag, even in the most irrelevant situations ("I'm eating a burrito #mfw"), and apparently everyone has a role in fashion. Be it the dashing young chap who calls posting soft porn fashion journalism, the pretty girl who's a self-appointed stylist...
...or those who are just THERE with no apparent reason (that would be me), most of the younger people are aiming for a place under that coveted spotlight.
This said, New Zealand's The Naked and Famous sound like an appropriate choice for this week's first song. Their "Young Blood" was the second single off their debut album, "Passive me, aggressive you", one of last year's best albums in my opinion.
The Naked and Famous – Young Blood
But how do you get to the top? Of course working and being good at what you do would be the obvious choice, but what if you do nothing? When your only goal is fame, you need to work on your contacts: the right amount of sucking up to the right people is the way to start. Then maybe, even if just as a cover to your real plans of spotlight domination, you might want to get a real job - and no one puts it better than Beth Ditto and Gossip.
The Gossip – Get a Job
This unfortunately is a losing game: even when after all your smiling and backstabbing you get to the top, someone will always be higher up. Hot Chip tell us all about envy in their new track "Let me be him", fresh off their brand new album "In our heads".
