Top 10 Modern and Alternative Christmas songs 2012

Bored of hearing the same Christmas songs year in and year out? Well, Swide have scoured our record collections and the internet to find something new for you to get your ears around this year.

If you, like us, are bored of the same old Christmas CD (vinyl and cassette too) being dusted off and used as the soundtrack to your festive season, Swide have a little treat for you. We have scoured the internet to unearth the gems that have come out the last decade or so, selecting cool electronic numbers, rock-styled grooves and, of course, a couple of cheesy ones in there, too… after all, they are essential to the holiday season. There are covers, originals and reworks in our Top 10. Enjoy.

Lady Antebellum – adding a touch of country-flecked class to this classic is America’s Lady Antebellum. A nice way to start things off when you’ve just woken up.

The Knife -  Sweden’s electronic outfit put together this amazing rolling track to celebrate the festive season, back in 2009

The Knife 'Reindeer' by Brille Records

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Maybe the best Christmas song on the list, this blues rock number comes with the same attitude that you’d expect from the art punk trio.

Cee Lo and Christina Aguilera – Fresh for 2012 is this cover by Cee Lo and THAT voice. Yes, we were as worried as you but this is not half bad. On the list it goes.

Alphabeat – Danish super-band Alphabeat have just dropped this Christmas song and… my god this is one hell of a happy song. If you don’t get much chocolate in your stocking this year, this song is sure to compensate.

Mariah Carey and Justin Bieber – This needs no intro. Just press play.

The Killers – Adding a bit of modern day stadium rock to your Christmas are The Killers with their cheeky track Don’t Shoot Me Santa. Perfect for when you’re in the kitchen cooking.

Tracey Thorn – A wonderful rework from one of the U.K’s modern iconic voices, giving us a perfect creeping rock and roll  number.

Death Cab For Cutie – The emo rockers thought they’d try out a Christmas number… not bad at all.

The Fireman – A perfect note to leave on. This twisting number is sure to get everyone on their feet.

Are we missing anything? let us know!
