For as long as I can remember, I've had a reoccuring dream of driving on an empty highway at night...
I always woke up fascinated by the dream, even if for some reason something in the dream always went wrong (namely I was a kid and didn't know how to drive), and now that I can drive I love nocturnal roadtrips. I enjoy the time alone, the driving, sitting down and love singing out loud.
The main problem, of course, is staying awake. I remember a near-death experience on a highway just outside of Rome a couple of years ago, involving myself and a guardrail, which I never want to repeat again (just like that time I was sailing and got hit by a tornado…but that's another story. Gosh I sound 100 years old). Coffee, iced coffee etc. can help, but the only thing that really keeps me going is music - both music I can sing to like a twelve year old girl and music I can jump around to (hands on the wheel, hands on the wheel…)
I'd like to suggest two songs this week - one for jumping around in your car and the other because the title is apt and I love it. They both date to a couple years back: the first is an all-British fist-pumping Fake Blood remix of a great Hot Chip track (all their tracks are great actually) and the second is an amazing piece of dreamy electro by dreamy electro masters Chromatics (also check out their fantastic cover of superclassic 'Running up that hill').
