Swide are at it again and going to be taking you to the party via our insiders. This time we’ll be keeping you up to date with the mayhem that will be going on at Distortion Festival, capturing the atmosphere of this club culture festival. Helping to cite Copenhagen as a modern city and pushing Scandinavia’s progressive society, Copenhagen’s awarding winning Distortion is a five-day mobile festival, celebrating club culture, dance music, street life, social art and Copenhagen’s new independent media. Oh… and a strong focus on those in attendance to let themselves go and get whipped up in a freedom frenzy. As much as this sounds like it would be utter pandemonium, it is actually hailed as being very respectful and an event where punters take care of each other. It started in 1998 as a one-day festival, set up to celebrate exactly what it does today but then the crowds that were turning up were much smaller in number than what Distortion attracts today. Now, that it notoriety is attracting attention from party revellers overseas, the punters are becoming increasingly international and opening the festival to more and more world artists and musicians.

One of the most unique points about this diverse festival is the fact it is mobile, meaning that each day the centre of activity moves from one area of Copenhagen to another. And, what’s more is that the location of these events and parties are not in your average bars and clubs; basements, alley ways, famous Copenhagen squares, parades, bus parties… the list goes on. Depending on how you’re feeling, you can either enjoy the street parties that go on during the day or the night parties, of which many require tickets to enter… or just think ‘sod it’ and put on your party shoes form dusk ‘til dawn and then do it all again. Sleep is obviously encouraged but it is easy to get yourself worried that you’re missing out on the good stuff and, so, make sure you give yourself a few days of post-Distortion recover.

This year’s line-up is as exciting as ever, packed full of those who are well known, up and coming and then plenty for you to discover on your own. Big names include Chromatics, Mike Skinner, Tyga, Yelle, Kidd and Michael Mayer. Then, those that are must sees come in the form of UK’s grime-rapper Benny Banks, resident Djuna Barns, Trojan Sound System from England and Sissy Nobby from New Orleans, the transsexual rapper who will have you twerking until the early hours. But, these guys are just the tip of the iceberg and there are hundreds more to be discovered.

Noted as being ‘Four Days in Paradise’ by Interview Magazine in 2011, Swide have been waiting for 2012’s edition of the ‘One of the best club festivals in the world’ (DJ-Mag 2009).
